Our Gymnasium

On a cold winter evening of 1870 the inspector of national schools Ilya Nikolayevich Ulyanov arrived at Khodary. He spoke about the importance of public education, about Chuvash people the majority of whom were illiterate. He informed the villagers that the Ministry of Education had given permission to open this school.

A small wooden house which served as the building of the first national school is taken care of up to the present day.

It was built on the initiative of Ilya Nikolayevich Ulynov in 1952. Now in is a museum.

As you see, the school is situated in a very picturesque place. More then 15 thousand schoolchildren enjoyed and admired the voices of whispering birch-trees, the sweet smell of the line-trees, and there are flower beds and the cool shade of the fir-trees. There are  flower  -beds in front of the school .  In the museum there  are the samples of ancient chuvash embroidering. Each stitch and colour of it symbolized some phenomenon of nature: its fauna and floura.

Here we can find the first books with which the first pupils of the school used to learn maths, the chuvash language.

We have the first ABC written by Ivan Yakovlevich Yakovlev, the first chuvach enlightner.

Our school is a two-storied building. It is very large but is not small either.

When we come to school, we take off our coats and hats, raincoats and caps in our cloak-room.

On the first floor we can see the gymnasium, where pupils have physical training lessons.

There is also a workshop for boys and girls on the first floor.There are classrooms ,too. These classrooms are for the first, second, third, and fourth forms. The classrooms for Chuvash and Russian languages, History, Biology and a dining-room.

We have a nice library in out school. There is a reading-room in it. There is a lot of interesting new and old books in it.

Our school has got many classrooms. We have got two English classrooms, History, Physics, Chemistry, two classrooms for Math and two classrooms for Russian and others. They are big and light and each of them has got two large windows white green curtains, flowers on the window-sills, a bookcase near the door, the blackboard on the wall.

The teacher’s table with many books on it is situated not far from the blackboard.

There are twenty desks and some comfortable chairs in the classrooms.

There is a TV set , computers in some classrooms . Sometimes they are used during the lessons.

There is a school hall on the first floor where meetings and conferences take place.

We organize concerts, parties when we celebrate our holidays. Pupils of our school sing songs and dance modern and folk dances and perform some plays there. The last bell is organized at our school in a proper way. It is a very remarkable day in the life of all the pupils. The pupils of the first form and the pupils of the eleventh one are preparing for this day with great pleasure.

The teachers` room is on the second floor. There are tables and chairs for teachers, a TV set and a telephone there. It is a comfortable and cosy room and the teachers like to spend their free time in it. I like my school. I go there and get knowledge.
